Kirja kulkee nimellä Marilyn Monroe tai vaihtoehtoisesti Will Acting Spoil Marilyn Monroe. My incredible luck with Marilyn books continues: I've been hunting for a reasonably priced copy of Pete Martin's book for years and years, and now I found one. Depending on the edition the book is called Will Acting Spoil Marilyn Monroe or simply Marilyn Monroe. It's one of the few books published in Marilyn's lifetime and one that the author actually interviewed Marilyn for. My copy is named simply Marilyn Monroe, and it's the first British edition.
Pete Martin interviewed several people for his book. He paints a charming picture of them all sitting at the Polo Patio at the Beverly Hills Hotel, ready to order lunch. Each person takes turns in talking about Marilyn, and Marilyn tells how things are from her point of view. Of course this never happened, but it's a nice way to move the text forward.
Many Marilyn quotes originate from Martin's book, and it's considered to be very reliable. Quotes such as "I think people need human warmth even when they're asleep and unconscious", "Those who know me better know better", and while on the subject of her nude calendar, "I'm saving a copy of it for my grandchildren" can all be found on the pages of Martin's book. Marilyn's voice can definitely be heard, and for that, I treasure this book.
Martin's book is not super rare, but because it it one of the few books published in her lifetime and there are no recent editions, you won't see it very often in a good condition at a reasonable price. You can find it in hardcover or softcover, American or British edition. The text is the same in all of them, but there are differences in the pictures.
