Marilynista kirjoitettiin hänen elämänsä aikana vain muutamia kirjoja. Yksi näistä on vuonna 1955 ilmestynyt Marilyn Monroe As The Girl. Kyseessä ei ole elämäkerta vaan kuvin kerrottu tarina Kesälesken kuvauksista. En edes uskonut koskaan saavani tätä kirjaa, sillä se on nykyisellään kohtuullisen harvinainen. Siksi sen hinnatkin usein kohoavat pilviin.

Only a handful of books were written about Marilyn during her lifetime. One of these is Marilyn Monroe As The Girl, published in 1955. It's not a biography but a picture story of the making of The Seven Year Itch. Frankly, I never thought I'd have this book, because it's relatively rare these days. That explains why it's often quite expensive.
And then, one day, a small package arrived. I had never even seen a copy of this book, but I knew it was quite small. I was right. I thought that it would be a nice addition to my book collection, but what I didn't expect was how I'd fall in love with the book.
Marilyn Monroe As The Girl is a little, thin book with only 128 pages and completely black and white. It's also old, but that only adds to its charm. I have to confess that I love the smell of old books. Also, our house was built in 1955 which makes it as old as the book. Maybe the movie theater next door showed Marilyn's movies. This small book is a blast from the past, from the time when Marilyn was still alive.
The book is described on the cover as "The candid picture-story of the making of 'The Seven Year Itch'." This is not a large, glossy photo book, but the photos are lovely. There is not a lot of text. In the beginning there's a foreword written by George Axelrod, author of The Seven Year Itch. After that, we're welcomed to the world of The Girl. The pictures move the story forward from the day Marilyn arrives in New York until the last day of shooting. The adorable captions help identify different occasions. The photos were taken by Sam Shaw, a friend of Marilyn's. Even though they were published in this book in 1955, some of those are rarely seen even today.
This book surprised me with all of its loveliness. The adorable story of the making of The Seven Year Itch caused me to watch The Seven Year Itch – once again.
